2. Biography

Two-time Olympic champion (and eight-time world champion. The best hockey player of the USSR. One of the leading players of the USSR of the 1970s, which was recognized both at home and abroad. a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame (1998). Member of the Hockey Hall of Fame NHL (since 2005).

3. Early years

7. Death of a legend
On Thursday, August 27, 1981, at seven o'clock in the morning, at 74 km of the Leningrad highway accident occurred, which led to the death of a hockey player. Valery, Irina and her cousin Sergei Ivanov returned to the city with cottages in the village of Pokrovka under the wedge on its "Volga". Irina, who was sitting behind the wheel, lost control on the slippery from the rain the road and the car washed up on the oncoming lane, where it collided with a truck ZIL.
