Chemistry I Chapter 5 Review
The estimated digit is the last digit of a measurement. i.e m, it is the 6. Significant figures All numbers from 1 to 9 Zeros – captive Trailing – only if decimal present anywhere Leading zeros are NEVER significant! i.e g; 30,600m; s,

Density = mass divided by volume D=m/v Mass = g or Kg Volume = L (1000 mL = 1L), mL, cm3, cc Distance = L, length in m Area = L X W, m2 Volume = L X W X H, m3 Cube has 3 sides!

Significant figures calculations Add/sum/subtract – use decimal point Multiply/ product/divide – use significant figure Rounding – mark of sig.figs. then drop a line if number next to line is 5 or greater round last sig fig up, in 4 or less, do not round last sig fig! If the density calculated is over 1.0, it will sink in water; if density calculated is under 1.0, it will float. Calculate volume when given density and mass.
