Poetry 9/20/16 Where are there examples of parallelism in this poem?
Neglect Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember of the Red Delicious I brought down, ashamed that I could not convince its limbs to render fruit? Too much neglect will do that, skew the sap's passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart. I should have lopped the dead limbs early and watched each branch with a goshawk's eye, patching with medicinal pitch, offering water, compost and mulch, but I was too enchanted by pear saplings, flowers and the pasture, too callow to believe that death's inevitable for any living being unloved, untended. What remains is this armload of Applewood now feeding the stove's smolder. Where are there examples of parallelism in this poem? How is the theme of this poem reflected in The Crucible or The Scarlet Letter? Why is the tree burning in this poem? Is it a good thing that it is being used for firewood?

Parallelism What is it? Definition: The use of successive verbal constructions in poetry or prose that correspond in grammatical structure, sound, meter, meaning, etc Example: Ashley likes to ski, to swim and to jump. Tim was considered to be a good employee because he was never late, he was very motivated and he was not lacking in initiative. Mary wanted to make sure that she made her presentation creatively, effectively and persuasively.

Finish reading Act II

Rewriting Act II Now that we have finished reading, within your groups rewrite the scene. You may use modern, everyday language and you must include all vital aspects of the scene. Figure out how you would stage the scene, decide what the characters would be doing, where would you have it take place, and identify if there is anything that you would want to add in to the scene – NOTE: if you add anything in it cannot change the overall outcome or meaning of the scene.

Crucible Storyboards Develop a picture storyboard for themes and symbols in the Crucible Each group (no more than three people) will be assigned a theme or symbol These can be made in Google Slides and then shared with Ms. Murphy PLEASE MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE EVERYONE’S NAME ON IT THAT IS IN YOUR GROUP – otherwise I cannot grade them properly
