PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION WHAT DOES GOOD LOOK LiKE?
Collection of evidence to demonstrate skills, knowledge and behaviours against the entirety of the Apprenticeship Standard Should contain the Apprentice’s best work Presented electronically Use of video, audio & photographic evidence encouraged Follows a prescribed format (OP2 – Contents Sheet) Collateral – L3 & L5 Portfolio Guide

PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION WHAT DOES GOOD LOOK LiKE?
WILL CONTAIN: Individual Learning Programme Performance Reviews Record of CPD & Evidence of 360 Degree Feedback A range of Work Based Evidence Statement of Authenticity Expert Witness Signatures Work Based Project Evidence may be in the form of reports, minutes, reflection, demonstrations, presentations, and feedback from managers and peers. The portfolio will also show how the apprentice has demonstrated the behaviours, especially around contact with others, team work and areas where they have exceeded the requirements of the role. This can be in the form of manager’s report, s, customer comments, peer review etc.

L5 - Work based project what it contains
The project will be set and completed during the latter part of the Apprenticeship It is mapped to the standards in the portfolio to cover knowledge, skills and behaviours Based on a business problem that is part of the Apprentice’s role Terms of reference and an initial plan for agreement with the employer and Training Provider Assumptions and consequences to demonstrate understanding of commercial pressures and the application of their thinking and problem solving skills The apprentice must provide a signed statement to confirm the project is their own work.

Work based project who is involved in the choice
Training Providers will work with the employer and Apprentice to agree the project title and support arrangements Employer representative will manage the project Training Provider will oversee and provide support to the Apprentice The employer and Training Provider will ensure that the Apprentice has access to the tools and systems required to complete tasks Suitable time should be set aside by the employer for the Apprentice to plan, undertake and write up their project. (20% off the job training)

The Guidance Government guidance stipulates that apprenticeships will require % of which must be off the job and sustained training; 20% of which must be off the job Apprenticeship funding: rules and guidance for employers May 2017 to March 2018 V2: ‘Off-the-job training is defined as learning which is undertaken outside of the normal day-to-day working environment and leads towards the achievement of the apprenticeship. This can include training that is delivered at the apprentice’s normal place of work but must not be delivered as part of their normal working duties… The off-the-job training must be directly relevant to the apprenticeship framework or standard’.

Designed to offer apprentices the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours against the standard Apprentices showcase their portfolio (and Apprentices demonstrate their impact on the business IAA will have pre-prepared questions Apprentices will be supported in advance by the provider Apprentices have access to mock questions and resources i.e. STAR techniques

Assessment by CMI will have been conducted in advance IAA will have prepared questions using CMI question bank At L3, the Interview is the Independent Apprenticeship Assessor and the Apprentice At L5, the Interview Panel consists of Independent Apprenticeship Assessor (Chair), Employer, & Provider Each should have some prior knowledge of the apprentice and their project and portfolio In the Panel Interview the IAA makes the final decision

Check the equipment and environment. Quiet with no interruptions, adequate lighting and temperature Only the Apprentice and the panel to be present The portfolio or project report can be referred to in order to cite any examples but portfolio or project report evidence WILL NOT count towards the marks. Any extenuating circumstances will be recorded - IAA ONLY may consider these when awarding the final mark.

IAA will use pre-prepared questions from CMI question bank Marked on a prepared score sheet IAA and CMI admin responsible for liaising with provider over logistics Located at employer or provider premises – the majority of interviews will be remote using software Internet access will be required for the interview, which will be video recorded Apprentice identity will need to be verified

L5 Presentation (15 mins) Focus on the outcomes of the project, describe the objectives and outputs and demonstrate: what the apprentice set out to achieve what they have produced in the project how they approached the work and dealt with any issues confirm the demonstration of appropriate interpersonal and behavioural skills Further questions to confirm knowledge and skills through their experiences at work

L5 - Presentation assessment
15 minute question and answer session after the presentation Questions will be structured by the IAA in advance from assessment of the work based project Panel members may ask pre-agreed questions or have some of their own (IAA to take responsibility and negotiate this in advance with panel members) IAA will have final decision which will then be moderated by Lead IAA within CMI before results are released
