Is it still reliable? Orientation Find the compass rose, orient the map in the direction you need (usually North)

Does it give a location? What is the time and place of the map? Author Who made the map? Think about purpose (Navy, Educational, Land Navigation)

Does the map have an alphabetical listing of the places and a grid? Legend Does the map have a legend or key that explains the map’s symbols? Situation Does the map show this location in relation to other places, such as an inset map?
