Roosevelt set out to calm Americans and give them hope. His plan includes 3 parts RELIEF: the first 100 days RECOVERY: the second 100 days REFORM: a slow process after the initial projects

RELIEF: 1ST 100 DAYS Provided a quick fix! Included the Alphabet Soup!

New Deal Programs FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; protects your deposits in banks…solved the problem of banks running out of money CCC: Civilian Conservation Corps; gave men jobs working in forests and in parks TVA: Tennessee Valley Authority; developed better irrigation methods and used the Tennessee River to make hydroelectric power NRA: National Recovery Administration; helped set fair business practices and standards AAA: Agricultural Adjustment Act: paid farmers subsidies NOT to grow overproduced cops

21st Amendment Repealed the 18th amendment
Made it legal to make, sell, buy, and consume alcohol The main reason is because alcohol is a HUGE industry…$$$ Also, the government will be able to get a lot of tax money

RECOVERY: 2nd 100 Days The goal of recovery is to give America LONG TERM fixes WPA: Works Progress Administration; JOBS JOBS JOBS!!!!! Men built bridges, roads, and buildings; women helped write down oral stories, collect art, take photographs Social Security Act: money for retired, elderly, or handcapped Unemployment payments Bank Holiday: declared by FDR to help end the bank runs and allow the banks to get reorganized
