Regional/national project – currently Dudley, Solihull and Lichfield at the heart of the work - looking at 360 degree perspective of businesses as customers of local authorities Developing a standard – at the heart of the project – bringing consistency to managing data and identity (Business Description Schema) Initially driven by efficiency/customer improvement objectives – now supports major transformational initiatives: Hampton Review says business should give information once only and we all share it – basis for regulatory reform Customer Insight – to understand how to segment business customers and develop services based on identifiable need you need to know who your customers are – and keep track of them Centralisation of Business Link operations and customer services under framework of Regional Development Agencies leading to rationalisation of Business Support programmes across local authorities and Business Link…….

5 Current Work Work with Business Link on a regional index of businesses – core data only with information in the public domain Supports the Simplification Agenda – need to understand customer base to be able to target support 3 West midlands local authorities including Lichfield now in a working pilot funded by Business Link Challenge to have one source of Business data in the authority which then can be used for sharing across other agencies Services delivered to locations – importance of Local Land and Property Gazetteer and Unique Property Reference Number Gaining momentum – in discussion with several other Midlands authorities who wish to become part of this Final confirmation awaited of funding through Government Connects to explore secure exchange of data – moving beyond core information Links to parallel pieces of work………..
