Definition of IT Professional
My definition of IT professional An IT professional is someone who has knowledge and skills in information technology. Able to manage information from networks as well as develop and design computer hardware and software for organizations. My definition of IT professional An IT professional is someone who has knowledge and skills in information technology. An IT professional can manage information from networks as well as develop and design computer hardware and software for organizations. Should be able to adapt to new technologies Be effective in successfully achieving the goals of both the business side and the IT side. Show leadership and be valuable to the company

Definition of IT Strategy
A comprehensive plan that consist of objectives, tactics and principles that relate to the use of the technologies within an organization. a comprehensive plan that consist of objectives, tactics and principles that relate to the use of the technologies within an organization. Having a plan is the best and effective way to identify and align the business objectives with the Information technology objectives. A great tool to use for creating a strategic plan is using SWOT analysis. SWOT analysis identifies 4 key areas in a company. The 4 key area are: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It important to know that when developing a strategic plan, the IT strategies must align with the business strategies

Definition of IT Policy
Information technology policy is a set of guidelines within companies and or organizations that address the information technology needs and usage Information technology policy is a set of guidelines within companies and or organizations that address the information technology needs and usage Having IT Policies gives an assurance of managing the risk that can occur within a company. Every organization has their own policies that can differ from another organization. Every organization should consider having these policies: security, technology standards, IT services and disaster recovery.[2] It is important that for any company/organization that IT Policies are reviewed and updated on a monthly or annual basis.

Definition of IT Governance
A framework used by organizations and companies to make sure their IT strategies support their business strategies and objectives. IT Governance is a cooperation between IT and the business. A strong IT governance ensures that companies and organizations meet regulatory compliance in some areas such as financial accountability, data retention and security. IT Governance - Must be a group effort of the IT exes and the business exes to set goals that are based on an organizations objectives and principles - IT Governance focuses on five areas: - Strategic alignment Aligning the strategies of IT and the strategies of the business. Effective communication between the IT side and the business will make a for a true alignment[4] - Value delivery “Makes sure that IT department delivers the benefits promised at the beginning of a project.” (Schwartz 2007)[4] - Resource Management Managing resources more effectively .[4] - Risk management Introducing a risk framework which show IT measures, accepts and manages risk.[4] - Performance measures A way to measures business performance is by introducing a Balance Scorecard which examines where IT makes contributions to achieving business goals [4]

Recommendations One approach to using IT to meet business needs to create value is by using the IT Assurance Roadmap in COBIT5. The IT Assurance Roadmap aligns the IT goals with the business goals. This framework “consists of 3 stages: planning, scoping and executing” [2] IT Strategy- An approach to IT strategy is to review the current mission statement and to use the SWOT analysis. By outlining the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, a company can minimize the threats that are involved in a company IT Policy- An approach for IT policy is to review the current policies that are in place in IT. Update those policies if they do not affect IT within the business and appropriately communicate the updated polices to the company. IT Governance- An approach to governance is to maintain a clear objective and goal that meets the needs of IT and the business. Establish a clear plan, create a solution and build on the process. It is important that as an IT professional that in order to be valuable to a company one must continue to educate yourself on the latest technologies. This can be done by getting certifications. Always a have a some effective communication between the IT objectives and the business objectives. Constantly review the IT Polices, Strategy and Governance of a company. Become valuable to the IT organization by identifying potential risks and adapt to the COBIT framework.
