About EUCEBS EUROPEAN CERTIFICATE OF BASIC SKILLS (EUCEBS)
Funding: Leonardo Da Vinci Programme, European Commission Acceptance in Europe piloted in 8 European countries concurrently Competence-based, 6 domains: Communication, ICT, Numeracy, Learning to Learn, Interpersonal Skills, Citizenship Trainees/learners targeted: people without formal qualifications, early school leavers, immigrants, travelling persons, prisoners, job-seekers abroad Two methods of assessment: prescribed tests and portfolio based The e-portfolio: supporting a European route to adult basic skills certification, La Rochelle 2004

Assessment Assessment prescribed Prescribed tests are direct
These can be paper-based, computer-marked or performance of competence in front of assessor Prescribed test is a European-standard test for overall competence in each domain For CAA example types of questions will be: Type number Type word Drag and drop (re-order, re-position) Cross-link objects or words The e-portfolio: supporting a European route to adult basic skills certification, La Rochelle 2004

Assessment Cont. Assessment portfolio paper-based or electronic
assessment is indirect in that the assessor may not see the demonstration only the product For e-portfolio, the main types of materials that might be used are: Written/drawn documents computer-produced documents images video clips audio clips Pre-entry These are materials brought from previous work, study etc. Post-entry The materials created within the centre The e-portfolio: supporting a European route to adult basic skills certification, La Rochelle 2004

Domain – prescribed test

Issues and challenges A certain level of ICT skills are required in order to use and feel comfortable using an e-portfolio – collateral learning. Access to the internet required, centres will need to provide this for those least well off. Interoperability with other systems Future system designs need to meet emerging standards, this is the only way that the e-portfolio will progress Disability legislation The e-portfolio: supporting a European route to adult basic skills certification, La Rochelle 2004
