5 9th Grade – E.A. #1 9/11 Interview Presentation Notes/Reflection #8-9
Number Each Student you take notes on. While you are watching presentations, write down student name then one thing you thought they did well, and one thing they thought they could improve. Write ONE open ended question about the presentation’s topic (the adult) – be prepared to share it w/ the speaker. EX: 1) Jerome – Had good volume. Improve on eye contact. Why didn’t your father return to college? At the end of the day of presentations, write down what you thought the students did well with overall and what they could improve. OR If you actually presented, write down what you thought you did well and what you could improve.

6 9th Grade – E.A. #1 At the end of the presentations, finish any leftover notes/questions and evaluations. Class will either do a quick whole class share or share in small groups if time.

7 9th Grade – E.A. #1 Power Point or Google Slide structure (Powerpoint – bring on a flash drive!) Title Slide (include by Your Full Name & Period at bottom of this slide) Full Name of the person Picture of the person if possible and/or a picture symbolizing their post-high school experience/career) Each slide must contain a photo or graphic with a caption or quote from the interviewee. Introduction Slide (see your introduction paragraph & pick a few interesting points to share) Body Slide (see your body paragraph & pick a few interesting points to share) Conclusion Slide (see your conclusion paragraph & pick a few interesting points to share) NO COMPLETE SENTENCES in slides except direct quotes – just main bullet points for each section! Your slide show should enhance your presentation – what you are saying – not take away from it! You may use note cards – DO NOT WRITE SENTENCES except direct quotes! PRESENT TO US – DO NOT READ TO US! (presenting more than what’s on slides)

11. Anaphora – repetition of the same word or group of words at the beginnings of two or more clauses or lines. 12. Juxtaposition – arrangement of 2 or more things for comparison. 13. Flashback – Interruption or transition to a time before the current events in a narrative. 14. Denotation – precise meaning of a word (dictionary definition). 15. 16. Prose – ordinary written/spoken language using sentences/paragraphs without deliberate or regular meter or rhyme (not poetry or song) 17. Poetry – language written in lines & stanzas 18. Rhetorical Appeals – emotional, ethical & logical arguments to persuade an audience to agree w/ writer (speaker). 19. Logos – rhetorical appeal to reason or logic. 20. Diction – writer’s word choice which conveys voice and tone. 9. Narrative – story about series of events including character development, plot structure, and theme (fiction/nonfiction). 10. Strategize – to plan the actions one will take to complete a task. Inference – conclusion about ideas not directly stated. Transcript – written copy or record of a conversation between two or more people. Claim – thesis statement describing the position the writer is taking on an issue.
