6 Another Way? Unplug appliances & Plug in the community
Park your Car & Walk… and when necessary March Change your Light bulbs… & then change your paradigm Recycle your trash… or your elected officials Buy Green, Fair, Local, Used & Less

7 Extraction Taking the planet’s resources out of the earth for economic purposes. Dilemma: We’re extracting more then we need We’re using unsustainable processes of extraction, damaging the environment We’re not sharing the resources equally.

8 Production When energy is used to add toxic chemicals to the natural resources to make toxic products. Our industrial production systems use vast amounts of natural resources to churn out pollution, work and community health problems and products Many of which contain toxins that are known to be harmful to human health & the environment.

9 Distribution Involves transporting and selling products quickly and cheaply. The goal is to keep: Prices down The people buying The flow of materials moving.

10 Distribution Businesses externalize costs so to keep prices low.
That means that the price tags on consumer products don’t capture the true costs of production and distribution.

11 Consumption Our purchases of consumer products
Current consumption patterns are unsustainable and inequitable and must be changed.

12 Disposal Virtually all the resources flowing through the materials economy eventually end up as waste to be disposed somewhere, usually dumped or burned or recovered for recycling. As the volume and toxicity of waste grows, recycling can’t solve the whole problem. Waste needs to be designed out of the system from the start
