2. Leaguetag is Characterised by: A non contact form of Rugby League.
Tags instead of tackles.
Changeovers instead of scrums.

3. Tagging Changeovers Diving Kicking
In general the rules of Rugby League apply other than specific rules relating to:
Tagging
Changeovers
Diving
Kicking

4. There are two forms of the game:
Representative form
Modified form

5. Representative form 11 a side on an international (full size) field.
All Representative games will be played under this format.
Group 20 will play under this format in 2011.

6. Modified format 8 a side on a modified field.
Group 9 will play this form in 2011.
Note that from 2011 a Leaguetag modified field is not the same as a Mod League field.

7. Modified field
Prior to 2011 Group 9 Leaguetag games were played on a Mod League sized field.
The field was brought in 20m on one side and ten metres at both ends.
Field size was 80m from goal line to goal line and 48 m wide

is the dead ball line on the modified field in this case

9. In 2011 the Modified field will be:
Brought in 10m from both touchlines
Be the full length of the International field.
The size will be 100m from goal line to goal line and 48m wide.
This will bring the goalposts into play and will allow:

12. Conversions Conversions will be taken: By the try scorer
From the 20m line straight in front of the posts
Conversions are not compulsory and the player may decline to make the attempt if she wishes.

Note that the dead ball line on the international field
is the dead ball line on the modified field in this case

14. Changovers
Changeovers occur in Leaguetag whenever a scrum would occur in Rugby League.
The team that would receive the loose head and feed in Rugby League receives the ball for a play the ball – zero tackle in Leaguetag.
It’s that simple!

15. Tags and tagging
A player must have both tags on in order to run with the ball.
A player can defend with only one tag.
When a tag is removed from a player in possession she must play the ball at the spot where the tag has fallen
The player making the tag must drop the tag and is not allowed to throw it.
The player making the tag usually takes up the position of marker.
The marker and the defensive line can move when the ball clears the ruck.

16. Tags and tagging
The defensive line must stand 10m back from the play the ball.
The ball carrier cannot fend or protect her tags.
The ball carrier cannot deliberately run into a defender. This is known as “barging” and will be penalised.
360° turns are allowed.
A player deliberately making a late tag will be penalised.
Jerseys must be tucked in at all times.
Players must not deliberately grab clothing when attempting to make a tag.

17. Diving
Diving is allowed in all situations EXCEPT:

A player in possession of the ball cannot dive through the defensive line or
Past a player who is in a position to make a tag.
If this occurs the attacking player will be penalised for barging.

Attacking player can dive to score as there are no defenders in front of her and the chaser is allowed to dive to make the tag.

Ball is in the Red in-goal. Both Red and Green players can dive on the ball (assuming the Green player has come from an on side position).
If Red touches first a line drop out results.
If Green touches first a try is awarded.
If both touch at the same time a try is awarded.

23. Kicking Kicking is allowed in general play
Any type of kick is allowed –
Grubber kick
Chip kick
Crossfield punt
Bomb

24. Special case
When a “bomb’ is put up players from the kicking team cannot come any closer to the player attempting to catch the ball than 10m.
Once the player has caught the ball or the ball touches the ground players from the kicking team can come within 10m.
This applies to “bombs” only – i.e., high balls that are kicked to put pressure on the catcher.
It does not apply to chip kicks.
It does not apply to cross field kicks which travel further in distance than they do in height.

25. Interchange In both forms of the game unlimited interchange applies.
Each team however will only have as many tags as there are players on the field, i.e., 11 sets for Representative form and 8 sets for the Modified form.
Interchange players must receive their tags from the player they are replacing.

26. Penalties
In the Representative form a kick for touch is allowed followed by a “free kick” as in Rugby League (the free kick is normally taken as a “tap” kick).
No kick for touch in the Modified form, i.e., a free kick only at the mark indicated by the referee.
No kick for goal in either form.
