Background The idea conceived by a group of like- minded individuals
Aim was to contribute in some way towards encouraging women in the corporate sector to take up the sport in earnest. The challenge was to get a single team from the same company. The group who conceived the idea included employees from Infosys, Sasken, BOSCH, CISCO, etc . The idea was formally materialised in Sep 2012 with a group of 20 odd women attending the first session at Sasken grounds in Domlur.
5
Facilities The first session was conducted at Sasken, Domlur
Initial strength was about ladies, with a constant attendance of 10 – 12 currently. Mainly a self-funded unit at present with support coming from Sri Kumarans Childrens Home Mallasandra for ‘nets’. Mainly coached by the senior past cricketers. A team kit is being self-funded by the players.
6
Current and future plans
The team has regular sessions twice a week during weekends. Technical and fitness related aspects are discussed with each player in detail during the ‘nets’. Regular matches are organised based on player availability and convenience. Future: Play matches once a month to get used to playing as a team. Play matches against teams outside Bangalore and Karnataka.
7
Current and future plan – 2
Future - continued Go on tours abroad to play against foreign teams – upcoming tour of Germany in season. Potential tours planned to Nepal, UK, Malaysia etc. Obtain a ‘home ground’ to play matches on a regular basis. Aim to have individual kits for players. To have club colours and jerseys. Work to get sponsorship. Create brochures, webpage etc to increase the visibility and identity of the team.
8
Achievements Completed three years as a Team in 2016.
The team name, registrations etc., formally announced in April 2013. Two international tours (Sri Lanka and Singapore) were performed in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Three CWC players were selected as probables in the Karnataka State Senior Women’s team.
