1 Muscle Fatigue, Tone & Contractions
Melany Cabrero 12/11/16 P.5

2 Muscle Fatigue Definition: The decline in ability of a muscle to generate force. Muscle fatigue can be a result of vigorous exercise but abnormal fatigue may be caused by barriers or interference between the different stages of muscle contraction. Refers to the decline in muscle force generated over time. The most important contributed factor is lactic acid accumulation. Sufficient exercise the onset of muscle fatigue can be delayed.

3 Muscle Fatigue What is muscle fatigue? How do you prevent it?

4 Muscle Fatigue

5 Muscle Tone Definition: The state of continuous partial contractions.
Muscle tone is the result of different motor units, which are scattered through the muscle, being stimulated by the nervous system in a systematic way.

6 What is the result of muscle tone?

7 Muscle Tone

8 Types of Muscle Contractions
Isotonic Contractions Isometric Contractions Isotonic contractions are very common The myofilaments are successful in their sliding movements. The muscle shortens & movement occurs. Examples: bending the knee, rotating the arms & smiling. Isometric contractions do not shorten. The myosin myofilaments are “skidding their wheels” & the tension in the muscle keeps increasing. Maintains posture Examples: carrying an object in front of you & holding a heavy object over your head without moving

9 Types of Muscle Contractions
What are the two types of muscle contractions?
