Reading Arizona State Standards
Resources: Reading Street is an adopted program through our district. We will cover phonics, phonemic awareness, vocab, fluency and comprehension. *Focus on each child’s needs through leveled groups Assessments- Weekly reading tests, Dibbles testing 3 times a year, D.R.A. testing quarterly, phonics screeners bi-weekly.

Writing *Write from the Beginning is the district adopted program
Focus: Writing across the content areas Thinking maps are taught and used to organize their thoughts. *working the first weeks on sentence structure and letter formation

Math *Eureka Math is the district adopted program
*Emphasis is on problem solving *Understanding what the value of a number is *Math fluency drills

Science (Foss kits) Plants Silt, sand and rocks Balance and motion
Animal Habitats (big emphasis in the Spring)

Social Studies American History Early Civilizations
Civics and Government Geography Economics (goods and services)

Behavior P.A.W.S. is our school wide behavior program
*focus on the positives rather than the negatives Classroom Behavior Management: -Clip chart (reds only are parent contact) -warm fuzzy jar (classroom incentive) -table points -pawsome awards

Grading and Assessments
E, S, N and U’s in first grade and performance level based on the standards 1-4 DIBBLES and D.R.A. Quizzes and End of Module tests

Homework Reading- 80-100 minutes a week.
*leveled readers, weekly story, raz-kids, library books *be sure to practice reading for fluency and retell *practice sight words ring if you have one Math- homework sheet to reinforce the skill taught that day in class Words their way- First week is sorting words, second week is practicing the spelling. Spelling test is every 2 weeks. *Homework should not take more than 40 min. If it takes longer contact me.
