Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP)
The Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) is the only global nonprofit membership organization designed to enhance the skills of knowledge professionals in order to help their companies. SCIP was founded in 1986 in the Washington, DC area through the efforts of a number of local and national intelligence practitioners.

SCIP Changes Name to Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals
On July 8th the SCIP Board of Directors voted to officially change the 25 year-old non-profit organization’s name from “Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals” to “Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals.” How the name modification reflect the developing evolution of the competitive intelligence (CI) profession Support an added focus on strategic decisions, one of SCIP’s principal goals. Include individuals who both work with and are customers of intelligence practitioners. Increase the connection of senior decision makers with their intelligence effort. Emphasize both the tactical and strategic orientation of our members. Create a unique value proposition by combining strategic and competitive intelligence. Maintain the SCIP acronym to preserve our 25 years of brand development

Better decisions through competitive intelligence. MISSION: SCIP will be the global organization of choice for professionals engaged in competitive intelligence and related disciplines. SCIP will be the premier advocate for the skilled use of intelligence to enhance business decision- making and organizational performance.

SCIP Code of Ethics for CI Professionals
To continually strive to increase the recognition and respect of the profession. To comply with all applicable laws, domestic and international. To accurately disclose all relevant information, including one's identity and organization, prior to all interviews. To avoid conflicts of interest in fulfilling one's duties. To provide honest and realistic recommendations and conclusions in the execution of one's duties. To promote this code of ethics within one's company, with third-party contractors and within the entire profession. To faithfully adhere to and abide by one's company policies, objectives and guidelines.

Strategic and Operational Plan 2009 - 2013
Mission SCIP will be the global organization of choice for professionals engaged in competitive intelligence and related disciplines. SCIP will be the premier advocate for the skilled use of intelligence to enhance business decision- making and organizational performance. Goal 1: CI Profession Organizations will recognize competitive intelligence as a discipline essential to business decisions and organizational success. Goal 2: CI Professionals SCIP will provide best-in-class CI development opportunities to professionals, globally, throughout their career. Goal 3: Governance SCIP will perform with superior efficiency and effectiveness to achieve the stated goals for the advancement of CI professionals and the profession.

SCIP membership SCIP membership consists of private sector intelligence practitioners who provide skilled analysis on the competitive environment which enhances business decision-making and organizational performance. Resources The CI Services Directory is one of the resources available to its members. SCIP’s Competitive Intelligence Services Directory (CISD) is a great vehicle to reach providers of competitive intelligence related products and services. The CISD is organized into 11 categories. This allows members to identify their company by specialty. There are also very useful sections on internet Resources, Education Courses and Degrees, SCIP Reports and Studies, Outside Resources, and Alliance organizations.
