What is the Holy Spirit’s role in a Christian’s life today?
2
Remember for previous lessons:
The Holy Spirit revealed the mind of God to the Apostles and prophets (1 Cor. 2:10-16, 2 Pet. 1:19-21). This includes the inspired words of scripture (2 Tim. 3:16). The spiritual gifts described in 1 Cor had an appointed duration. After that, they ceased (1 Cor. 13:8-13). These spiritual gifts were given through the apostles’ hands (Acts 8:14-19, 2 Tim. 1:6, Rom. 1:11). What did the Holy Spirit do for Christians apart from those supernatural gifts of the Spirit?

Things the Holy Spirit never did in the Bible:
Lead someone by a feeling. Force a person to do right or wrong against his will. Tell someone to violate God’s law. Lead someone to do what feels “right for them” in violation of God’s law. “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” Proverbs 14:12 “When they say to you, “Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.” Isa. 8:19-20

When Paul wrote to the church in Rome:
Did they have faith? Yes! Rom. 1:8 Had they been baptized? Rom. 6:3-4 Were they free from sin? Rom. 6:18 Did they die to sin? Rom. 6:11 Did they live to God? Were they saints? Rom. 1:7 Did they have many spiritual gifts? No! Rom. 1:11 Did the Holy Spirit dwell in them? Rom. 8:9
