Expectations and Grades

Materials For taking notes and organizing work, you have two choices:
A three ring binder (1” or larger) for just this class or A dedicated section for this class in a large three ring binder Why? We take a lot of notes in this class I regularly check notes for part of your grade To hold any other items: tests, project papers, etc.

Materials I will only accept work for a grade in either:
Pen (blue or black ink only) Pencil Typed (Arial or Times New Roman, 14 font size) Why? These are standard requirements in college academics and in professional work

Etiquette By the bell: Please be in your seat
Binder and pen/pencil should be out Non-classwork should be away in your backpack Place your phone in your backpack/handbag Backpack/handbag should be on the floor/under the desk Why? Courtesy and academic professionalism These affect Work Habits and Cooperation marks

Etiquette Food and drink is permitted in my room however:
It cannot interfere with your/our work All remains must be properly thrown away or recycled before the end of class If number 1 or 2 are violated, this privilege will be revoked 2. You may use a hall pass (ask) Excessive use will cause you to lose this privilege

Grades Academic Grades will come from: Classwork (including notes)
Homework (given occasionally) Tests Projects and Presentations Essays and Short Responses Your academic grade (A,B,C,D,F) is objective: in other words, you earn your grade through the quality of your work. I do not “give” grades

Grades Grade Scale: A = 90 - 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 - 79 D = 60 - 69
F = 59 or lower You will never get a zero – unless you choose to do no work, or have missing assignments

Grades Work Habit and Cooperation Marks (E,S,U):
These are subjective: in other words, these come from my observation of you, and are based on my perception If you care about these marks, think about how I might see you when you choose to do/not do something

Grades What affects Work Habits and Cooperation? Attendance:
3 or more Absences or Tardies in a grade period will earn a “U” in Work Habits To erase a “U” you must be absence/tardy free for the next grade period Continued absences/tardies will earn a “U” in Cooperation as well Phones: Unless we are using them, keep them away I will ask you once to put it away

Grades 3. Behavior: Show respect to me and the class
Poor choice of language, including verbal confrontations, hate speech and bullying will have consequences Issues with behavior will affect at minimum Cooperation 4. Dress: Remove ball caps before you enter class I will ask once

Talk to me! I am here by 6:00 am
My is on both boards and on the school website: The point is: talk to me Any problems you are experiencing: in my class (grades, issues with a student/s, problems outside of class) can be hard to accept/deal with and possibly affect your grades in class/es as well as your health Talk with me! I may be able to help Sooner is always better than later Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed!
