Social service agencies Everyone needs help sometimes. In Canada, there is lots of help, especially for students, people with children and students. We think if you have children, you MUST ask for help if you need it because the children will have trouble. Don’t wait until you are in trouble to get help because some things take time and you have to fill out paperwork.

You can get in trouble with the government if you don’t file your taxes Immigrant Services Calgary can help fill out the form This is how we get our Notice of Assessment but sometimes it takes too long to get. This paper is used for many things so it’s important.

Income support What kinds of things do we need help with? You need to know what to bring.

6 Budget Think about how much money you bring in and how much money you spend every month. Are you having trouble buying what you need? How can you spend less so you will have more money? Talk with your table. Write down all the money you spend for one month so you know how much you are spending.

Why would you want to save money? Have you ever had an unexpected expense that you couldn’t pay for? Have you ever had an emergency that you needed money now? What would you like to buy in the future? Talk with your table. Collect answers on the board to share with other students. Have you learned anything new today to help you with money and your budget? Follow-up Activity – find places on a city map and get directions from Calgary Transit to get there. Dictation activity – listen to addresses and write.
