4 Why did it happen? High taxes Low prices for tobacco
Angry that friends of the governor got special privileges Failure of government to protect people out west against Natives

5 Where? What? In the western areas of Virginia
Jamestown was burned, and Natives were attacked Bacon died and rebellion fell apart Southerners turned to slaves instead of indentured servants for workers

6 Pueblo Revolt of 1680

7 Why did it happen? Pueblo Indians angry about attempts to limit Kachina dances Also angry at whippings given by Spaniards

8 Where? What? 23 priests put to death and Catholic churches burned in New Mexico Santa Fe invaded First successful revolt by Natives against Europeans Pueblo kept culture alive longer than other tribes

9 Stono Rebellion of 1739

10 Why did it happen? Hoping to get freedom and flee South to Florida
Trained military men from Kongo (Congo)

11 Where? What? Revolt by Catholic slaves on a Sunday
Killed whites in South Carolina Eventually most of the slaves were put to death 10-year halt of slave trade, and then got slaves from outside Congo-Angola Made whites afraid of the potential for rebellion
