What were the Plains Wars?
First Fort Laramie Treaty Little Crow’s War Massacre at Sand Creek – 1864 Red Cloud’s war / Fetterman Massacre Second Fort Laramie Treaty 1868 The Battle of Little Bighorn – 1876 1890 – Wounded Knee After each ‘war’ a new treaty was drawn up and the Indians inevitably lost land

Your Task Use the information from the white book to consider the key events of; Little Crow’s War Massacre at Sand Creek – 1864 Red Cloud’s war / Fetterman Massacre What happened, what did the Indians lose, what did the settlers gain?

How might attitudes to the Plains Indians change during this time period?
See-saw effect (changed over the period) Humanitarians (mainly in the East) - should live with the Native Americans Exterminators (mainly the army/ settlers in West) believed they should be destroyed
