1. Electronic configuration of the noble gas neon (Ne) shown in two versions of an energy diagram. While the horizontal orientation at right is useful in the way it recalls the periodic table, it incorrectly suggests that the three 2p orbitals are of different energies. In fact the energies of the three 2p orbitals are equal, as is accurately captured in the vertically displayed diagram at left.
