Incident Summary On July 28th, Commercial Fishing Vessel POINT ESTERO grounded north of Cayucos at Estero Bluffs State Park. Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. (Global) was hired to remove oil and hazardous substances from the vessel. Patriot Environmental Services was hired for hazardous waste disposal.

Clean up Operations On July 30th, contractors commenced clean up operations to remove oil and hazardous substances off of the vessel. A commercial Helicopter was contracted to remove four marine grade batteries and navigational debris off of the vessel. On August 1st, clean up operations were completed.

Current Status The POINT ESTERO remains grounded at Estero Bluffs State Park. COTP order was issued to owner to submit savage plans and to verify integrity of vessel to the Coast Guard prior to attempting salvage operations.

GREAT ESCAPE III On August 26th, the 45’ catamaran GREAT ESCAPE III discharged oily water through the starboard side bilge pump into Channel Islands Harbor. Further investigation revealed that the vessel had approximately 200 gallons of accumulated oily-water and diesel fuel throughout the starboard side bilge. FOSC authorized use of OSLTF for $12K.

Clean Up Operations NRC Environmental Services was contracted to remove and dispose of all oil and hazardous substances from Vessel. Oxnard City Fire department hazmat crew provided air monitoring inside vessel. Approximately 280 gallons of oily water were removed from the vessel.
