1 WLAN Communication Network
By: Hassan ID: Section: 101

2 Introduction The wireless local area network, abbreviated as (WLAN) technology, is a network set up  for making an indoor communication network. WLAN allows the user within its range to share an internet connection in several rooms, without cables.

3 WLAN Network Components
Mode Standard (legacy mode)  It is a wireless networking standard specified two raw data rates of 1 and 2 megabits per second (Mbit/s)  Also known as Wifi or WiFi  Transmitted via infrared (IR) signals  Has a range of about 20 meters (65 feet) indoors and a greater range outdoors. Other components  A host computer,  DSL or cable modem  and the access point/router

4 The Independent Basic Service Sets (also called ad-hoc )
Topography IBSS The Independent Basic Service Sets (also called ad-hoc ) consists of a group of stations communicating connected directly with each other. BSS Also called infrastructure and it is a group of stations communicating with each other; but with a center station known as an access point or (AP). ESS A larger access setting, is multiple infrastructure BSSs which can be connected by their uplink interfaces. In , the uplink interface connects the BSS to the distribution system (DS).

5 Advantages Flexible Less Costly Easy Connectivity
WLAN standard helps to improve quality of the service in the work place, safety, and an effective way because it gives access and use of shared information. Less Costly  The WLAN technology uses only the components available for all average person the host computer, the DSL or cable modem, and the access point/router. Easy Connectivity  WLAN can connect several devices without wires or cables because it doesn't rely on wired Ethernet connections for the access-points. WLAN Evaluation

6 Disadvantages Access-points Poor Security
WLAN access-points come with a ready default configuration that can easily be accessed by unwanted guests Can be Costly WLAN technology can be costly when more coverage area which needs more power and components. Security Issue WLAN communication system can malfunction and cut communication.

7 Conclusion WLAN technology which operates on standard, is a useful small communication network which is available with small money and a few components but allows a great wireless communication.
