1 Monday, November 14th Entry Task List at least 3 different kinds of waves. Draw a picture of each that shows the MOTION of that kind of wave Schedule: Introduction to waves Objective: I will define longitudinal and transverse waves Homework Complete 15.1 vocabulary Please have on desk: ISN, entry task brochure

2 Tuesday, November 15th Entry Task Explain why ocean waves that move toward the shore don’t empty out the ocean. Schedule: Waves transfer energy notes ISN 83 Objective: I will describe transverse and longitudinal waves Homework: Venn Diagram ISN 82 Please have on desk: ISN open to 15.1 vocabulary ISN 81

3 15.1 Notes (Pg 489-494) Waves Transfer Energy
All waves transfer energy from place to place. Waves transfer energy but not matter.

4 15.1 Notes (Pg 489-494) Waves Transfer Energy
A wave is started by a disturbance. A disturbance is created by a force.

5 15.1 Notes (Pg 489-494) Waves Transfer Energy
A pulse is a single disturbance moving through a medium from one location to another location.

6 15.1 Notes (Pg 489-494) Waves Transfer Energy
Many waves need a medium or something to travel through.  Waves that need a medium are called Mechanical Waves

7 Transverse Wave Direction of Force is Perpendicular to Direction of Wave Example: Electromagnetic Waves; Earthquake Waves (S – Waves only) Energy (Wave) Force

8 Longitudinal Wave Direction of Force is same as Direction of Wave
Example: Sound Wave; Earthquake Waves (P – Waves only) Energy (Wave) Force

9 Water Wave Combination of Transverse and Longitudinal
Direction of Force is in a circle; Direction of Wave is horizontal Force Energy (Wave)

10 Output ISN 82 Compare and contrast the two kinds of waves with words and pictures

11 Wednesday, November 16th Entry Task Explain why water moving through a hose is a wave or is not a wave. Schedule: Waves have measurable properties Objective: I will measure amplitude wavelength, and frequency Homework Wave math Please have on Desk: ISN open to Venn diagram and entry task brochure

12 Read the article carefully
Highlight or circle ALL of the vocabulary terms from Chapter 15 (your list should be on ISN 79) EVERY TIME you read them. Answer the Check your Understanding questions in the article. Attach the article to ISN 85.

13 Properties of Waves handout
Open your textbook to page 496. Complete the handout. Do “Practice the Math” problems from page 501 in the margin of the wave math triangle side. Attach to ISN 84.

14 Thursday, November 17th Entry Task List 2 things that ALL waves have in common Schedule: 15.1 and 15.2 Review Waves on a String Objective: I will relate the properties of wavelength, frequency, and wave speed. Homework: Complete the review handout Please have on desk: ISN and entry task

15 Friday, November 18th Entry Task Copy & complete. Amplitude measures the amount of ______ in the wave. Frequency measures ___________________________________. Wavelength measures the __________ between the same two points on two consecutive waves. Schedule: Wave math Objective: I will calculate wave speed, frequency, and wavelength Homework Complete the handout (ISN 88) Please have on desk: ISN and entry task brochure

16 Math Practice A wave with a frequency of 14 Hz has a wavelength of 3 meters. At what speed will this wave travel?

17 Math Practice The speed of a wave is 65 m/sec. If the wavelength of the wave is 0.8 meters, what is the frequency of the wave?

18 Math Practice A wave has a frequency of 46 Hz and a wavelength of 1.7 meters. What is the speed of this wave?

19 Math Practice A wave traveling at 230 m/sec has a wavelength of 2.1 meters. What is the frequency of this wave?

20 Math Practice A wave with a frequency of 500 Hz is traveling at a speed of 200 m/s. What is the wavelength?

21 Math Practice A wave has a frequency of 540 Hz and is traveling at 340 m/s. What is its wavelength?

22 Math Practice A wave has a wavelength of 125 meters is moving at a speed of 20 m/s. What is it’s frequency?

23 Math Practice A wave has a frequency of 900 Hz and a wavelength of 200 m. At what speed is this wave traveling?

24 Math Practice A wave has a wavelength of 0.5 meters and a frequency of 120 Hz. What is the wave’s speed?

25 Math Practice Radio waves travel at a speed of 300,000,000 m/s. WFNX broadcasts radio waves at a frequency of 101,700,000 Hertz. What is the wavelength of WFNX’s radio waves?
