Uniforms have been around for thousands of years.
Basic purpose was to identify friendly/enemy soldiers on the battlefield.
As time when on its purpose expanded to provide for specific missions and tasks.
As the purposes and tasks expanded so did the number of uniforms for the organization.
This is why there are field, service, dress, formal and task-specific uniforms such as flight suits.
