-> limits the occurrence of derailments e.g. maintain axles, maintain tracks, respect operating speed limits…
Mitigation -> reduces the derailment severity
-> limits the consequences of occurred derailments
e.g. detect derailment as soon as possible, protect operation of neighbouring tracks…
