iPad Accessibility Features (IOS operating System)
By: Elizabeth Rasmussen
2
What is accessibility for iPad’s?
Accessibility features allow users to have complete use of the device. It allows for a wide variety of people to use it, no matter what age, disabilities, or special needs. Let’s explore some of these features!
3
An explanation of what voice over is and how to use it
4
Voiceover Who does it help? What does it do?
Blind individuals or individuals with low vision What does it do? It allows the individual to have the text on the screen of the iPad read to them. This includes having buttons, links, icons, and other elements read to them. The individual just has to make gestures to select options and navigate on the device.

Connecting to hearing aids
Explanation of what kind of hearing aids can be connected, how it can be helpful, and how to connect them
9
Hearing Aids Individuals with hearing aids have the ability to connect to their device using accessibility features. Most hearing aids that are Bluetooth enabled will connect but there are also special iPhone/iPad hearing aids that allow for a better connection. Using hearing aids connected to the device allows the individual to have a better audible experience. The audio goes directly into the hearing aid instead of the individual having to try and decipher what is being said.

How to connect your hearing aids
13
Explanation of Facetime and how to use it
14
Facetime Facetime allows users to visually (and audibly) connect to one another via iPads, iPhones, iPods, or Macs over a Wi-Fi connection. It helps those who are separated by distance to connect face to face. It is great for conference calls. Facetime can simply be used for any reason that one needs to video chat.
15
NOTE: If you have multiple phone numbers or emails for a person, you’ll be asked to pick one.
16
Explanation of guided access and how to use it
17
Guided access Guided access allows the user to lock the screen to one app. This is a great feature when the device is being used by children. The adult can lock the app into place and the child cannot go out of the app in any way. It allows for great focus if the user needs to focus on what is going on in the app instead of exiting out of it.
22
Explanation of assistive touch and how to use it
23
Assistive touch AssistiveTouch allows users that have issues with motor control, coordination, or other impairments, to have better access and easier control keys on the device. It gives the user easier to use menus than the complex systems of the device; for example the hardware home button may be substituted with a different gesture on a menu that is easier for the individual to press.
27
Explanation of zoom and how to use it
28
zoom Zoom allows users to magnify the text or interface on the screen so that it is easier to read. The zoom can be changed to the users liking. Default zoom is 200% but can range from 100%-500%.
