Nunna Dual Tsuny The Cherokee call the trails where they cried the nunna dual tsuny. But the trail of tears , as it came to be known , was more than a trail. It was the forced exile and removal of the Cherokee from their homeland in America’s deep south. It was the darkest hour for one of America’s native tribes and is a controversial aspect in the history of the united states. The Cherokee were not the only American Indians to be displaced.

Forced to leave The Cherokee was forced to live .They lost there home land. So they had to move to the East of the Mississippi river.

Moving The Cherokee who left their land that fall battled rain , sleet , snow , ice , and extreme cold on their three month journey.

sadness On November 4,1838, he wrote with sadness:
We are now about to take our leave and kind farewell to our native land , the country that the great spirit gave our fathers . . .it is with sorrow that we are forced by the authority of the white man to [leave] the scenes of our childhood . . .we bid a final farewell to it and all we hold dear.”

An eternal flame In 1984, almost 150 years after the trail of tears , members of the Cherokee nation and Eastern band f Cherokee met at red clay , Tenesee .it was the first time members of the tribes had been together since their ancestors were separated in 1838.the two groups lit an eternal flame.
