1 Toronto schools announce discontinued trips to US

2 Canada's largest school system announced this week that it will no longer allow student or staff trips to the US, citing uncertainty over the travel ban. Toronto District School Board expressed concern over how the US immigration policy could affect students on school trips. Under the travel ban, citizens from six different Muslim-majority countries may not be allowed in the US under certain circumstances. The ban affects people outside of those six countries as well, since citizens from those countries could be living elsewhere, like Canada. The US travel ban has not taken effect after rulings by two federal judges that temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's executive order. White House press secretary Sean Spicer has said the Trump administration plans to appeal. The ongoing predicament left the Toronto District School Board with what it called a "difficult choice.” The board decided that the 24 pre-approved trips to the US would continue, but it will not permit new ones. The decision impacts 246,000 students in 584 schools throughout Toronto.

3 In Other News After days of trying to negotiate with members of Congress, Trump gave them an ultimatum: If they don't vote yes Friday, he will move on and put upon them the blame for failing to repeal Obamacare. With the result of Friday's vote uncertain, there were already signs that the White House was preparing to lay the blame on House Speaker Paul Ryan should the bill fail. Trump also realizes his credibility will take a hit if the bill goes down. The intense meetings with Republicans Thursday night, including dueling factions of conservatives and moderates, lead to pushing off the vote until today. Whether or not you develop cancer may have more to do with bad luck than lifestyle. A study in the journal Science says 66% of genetic mutations that turn into cancer are caused by simple random errors that occur when cells replace themselves. Lifestyle and environmental factors contribute to about 29% of the mutations. On Thursday, police named the London attacker as 52-year-old Khalid Masood. Police investigating the deadly terrorist attack in central London are focusing closely on the several aspects of the attack. Police made two "significant arrests" Friday and hundreds of officers had made contact with thousands of witnesses. Officers have also seized 2,700 items, including "massive amounts" of computer data. The number killed has now increased to four people.
