The work in Year 6 builds on that done in Year 5. Some of the topics covered this term include:
Place Value and ordering numbers-including ordering and rounding decimals with up to three places
Measures: area and perimeter-including calculating the area of irregular and compound shapes
Shape: 2-D shapes and 3-D solids
Mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Fractions,  percentages, ratio and proportion- linking fractions and percentages with ratio
Data handling: pie charts and line graphs and interpret frequency tables

READING – Children are encouraged to read at home and at school on a regular basis. Your child is encouraged to change their reading book and library book as soon as they have completed it. We have 2 parent volunteers in Year 3 who come into school to hear the children read If parents can hear their children read at home regularly, it would be extremely helpful. All the children have reading records and a reading book. Please encourage your child to read comics, newspapers and reading/ library books.

All children get teacher/ TA support over the course of a typical week. This could be to extend & challenge, consolidate or support.

18. Tools to protect your children – Parental Control
Every parental control package is different, but most provide services such as:
Filtering – content to restrict access to particular sites
Time limits – restrict the amount of time your child can be online, or set periods of time where your child can access certain sites
Monitoring – where you are informed of certain sites that your child is attempting to gain access to.

19. Reporting – where you are provided with information about what sites your child has used.

20. Let them teach you
The people who know best about what your children are up to online, are your children! Get them to tell you about the sites they’re using. Ask them questions such as:
◦Why do they like the site?
◦What can they do on it?
◦What’s so fun about it?
◦Who uses it at school?
◦Who you can talk to?
◦Who are their friends on it?
This is a good way to develop a trusting relationship with your child about what they are up to online.

23. Seesaw is an app that we are continuing with in school, allowing teachers to communicate with parents/carers about their children. It is useful for providing daily information about what is happening in your child’s class as well as allowing both children and staff to send photos of their achievements.

24. Homework and spellings are also posted on Seesaw in case of forgotten or misplaced work.
Reminders are also posted e.g church, photograph deadlines, upcoming events.

25. The children can get immediate responses to the work they have posted, making them feel really special.
