3 People Behind NetBrain

4 Company Overview Founded in 2004, NetBrain is the first software provider to apply the concept of CAD to network management. Leveraging a unique map-based automation technology, NetBrain simplifies and reduces the efforts associated with: Documentation Dynamic documentation is created in seconds and automatically updated when underlying network changes occur. Troubleshooting Network visualization and automation empowers engineers to uncover problems in minutes instead. Change Verification An automated approach to change management can eliminate outages caused by human-error to improve network availability.

5 The Operations Paradigm
TIER 3 Domain and How-to Knowledge Cost 2-4 hrs TIER 2 Max 20% escalation Min 80% resolution 1 hr Many corporate support structures are organized into 3 tiers. As the tiers progress higher, the amount of employees at the level significantly decreases. Ideally, 80% of the problems that enter a specific tier can be solved at that tier, ensuring the timely resolution of issues and an simpler resource planning. Recall that 70% of network outages can result in $10k or more loss of revenue. This places high priority on solving problems as quickly as possible. While this is the goal, many corporations, large and small, struggle to achieve a max 20% escalation rate since a large percentage of the domain and network knowledge is at the top level tier. As the percentage of escalations increases, so does the work-load on the upper tiers. This snow-balls into more time-based escalations which ultimately reach Tier 3 level, sit in queues even though they could have been resolved within minutes of reaching the entry level tier with the proper tooling. NetBrain provides tools that help each tier quickly assess the complexity of the issues, resolve when possible, and escalate with existing data-mining, map data and performance results relative to the problem area. Customers will quickly notice a more effective workflow across the teams and a significant reduction in repair times. This allows Tier 3 to work on reducing the cause of multiple incidents TIER 1 Resources

6 Network Manager’s Perspective
I want to reduce time spent on documentation, and keep it updated automatically to increase reliability and relevancy to our current needs I want to reduce outages caused by necessary changes. I want to transfer domain knowledge from the top down so less issues are escalated saving lost revenue and improving customer satisfaction I want resolve any change related outages in my allotted maintenance window so % availability is not impacted

7 Network Engineer’s Perspective
I want to transfer knowledge of new products and services quickly so I can move on to the next evolution project I want all previous data collected when an escalation does occur so I don’t have to start from scratch I don’t want to have to wait for a “future” release of a product to be able to get the information I need today I want to be able to quickly understand what’s changed when isolating incidents that worked before but do not now

8 Our Solutions Map-Driven Change Management
Automated Network Documentation Deep network discovery. Diagram from live network. Automated updates. Visual Network Troubleshooting Visualize the problem area. Diagnose network performance. Analyze changes. Map-Driven Change Management Deploy changes automatically. Analyze impacts instantly. Document change history.

9 NetBrain Features NetBrain is the 1st map-driven automation software for network troubleshooting, change, and documentation. Documentation Reduce Workload 20X Troubleshooting 50% reduction in MTTR Change Assurance Prevent Outages Collaboration Single Source of Data “D.C.U.” “M-P.H.D.” “C.A.D.” “3Qs” Discover Network Intelligently Discover device, topology and design of network Map Problem Areas Instantly Create a dynamic map of problem area Change Network Automatically Deliver or rollback a complex change with the push of a button Qmaps Share network specific knowledge including all probing, historical analysis, and Qapp Drill-down data. Create Diagrams Instantly Reduce from hours to seconds to create a feature-rich diagram Probe Live Network Visualize “what’s happening” inside a network Analyze Impacts Automatically Examine the network before and after the changes using CLI output comparison Qapps + Exchange Automate heavily-lifting of CLI and process. Share how-to knowledge. Historical Analysis Analyze “what’s changed” across relevant devices Update Diagrams Automatically Say good-bye to out-of-date manual diagrams Document Automatically Once the change is done, the documentation is done as well Qmap Reader Share Qmaps with any user, even if they do not have NetBrain installed on their local PC Drill Down with Qapp Run hundreds of automated diagnosis to discover root cause

10 Traditional Networking Tools V.S. NetBrain
Documentation Tools Frequency Time Spent MS Office, Visio Med-High (weekly - daily) ~ 2 – 10hrs per Instance NetBrain As Needed Seconds to minutes Troubleshooting Tools Frequency Time Spent CLI, Discrete Tools High (Daily) hour/instance NetBrain Up to 50% quicker With NetBrain’s Qmap, all troubleshooting activities remain in the context of the problem area on a map providing a True Single Pane of Glass. CLI results can be parsed and the appropriate information displayed directly on the map, and/or the user can view full historical raw data. Chart and Monitor data is easily customizable and again, displayed without leaving the context of the map. Work flow is focused and even previous monitor results can be displayed on the map during post-mortem type discussions. Change Management Tools Planning Unplanned Outage Risk CLI Ad-hoc to complex Very High and difficult to detect NetBrain CMM Structured Low and automatically detected

12 Customer Testimonials
Larry Fegan Director of Global Service Operation Center NetBrain has been frequently used and embraced as an advanced troubleshooting tool that is used for more difficult or high level issues. Along with the topology representation, intuitive interface, and the troubleshooting guidelines, it provides an excellent graphical tool that the GSOC uses to monitor specific network issues in real-time... Sam Shen Network Manager We had zero major outages for three large network migrations using NetBrain. Jonathan Edwards Network Engineer NetBrain has been very useful and is one of the main tools I use every day. It makes troubleshooting problems much easier and faster...
