Objectives inform and disseminate about novel approach
obtain feedback from fellow educators encourage collaboration on STEPS tables

Teaching Goal Students & residents have a tough time organizing and making choices when faced with an overwhelming number of options 11 categories of HTN meds (maybe 50 meds total) 10 categories of DM2 meds (32 meds plus other interventions) contraception… let’s demonstrate!
6
make a list of methods
7
what do women care about?
8
evaluate a method with STEPS
9
full STEPS table
10
more STEPS tables could probably do this with lots of things
interventions for depression interventions for hypertension interventions for bipolar start with exhaustive list of interventions/meds or categories of meds ask everyone what criteria would help us see the strengths and weaknesses of options, arrive at STEPS have the group make STEPS table and start to see why which agents shine and which are less good and which no good
12
Gain Attention Inform Objectives Connect to Prior Knowledge Present Information Provide Guidance Elicit Performance or Practice Provide Feedback Assess Performance Enhance Retention and Transfer recognize they’re overwhelmed, help ‘em overcome make sense of many choices, learn scheme often know most of the content for the grid boxes arrive at options, STEPS scheme, completed grid guide them to STEPS, give tips on options break them up into groups to do a column each lots of feedback as we construct the grid mostly during precepting cases afterwards everyone goes home with grid as handout
