From: Conceptual Versus Monolingual Scoring: When Does It Make a Difference? Lang Speech Hear Serv Sch. 2005;36(3): doi: / (2005/020) Legend: Bars representing monolingual and bilingual vocabulary illustrate that the distributed vocabulary of the bilingual child is similar overall to that of the monolingual child. The three lower bars illustrate the possible ways that the bilingual child’s vocabulary can be quantified. Total scores are potentially larger than other types of scores but cannot be compared directly to the scores of monolingual children. Single-language scores may be low relative to monolingual expectations. Conceptual scores potentially match bilingual children’s vocabulary distribution most closely and are potentially comparable to monolingual scores.
