2 SOME PEOPLE ENJOY SMOKING
They think it makes them look good… But it doesn’t Smoking is very anti-social now. Smokers are usually frowned upon as everyone knows how bad it is for you. Smokers don’t look good.

3 IT MAKES YOU ILL AND CAN EVEN KILL YOU
Once you start smoking its hard to stop Smoking becomes addictive, that means you feel as is you can’t live without them. You depend don them. They become part of your daily routine.

4 CIGARETTES ARE FULL OF BAD THINGS
There are over 4,000 bad things in a cigarette. NICOTINE This is part of the cigarette that is addictive this makes it hard to stop smoking CARBON MONOXIDE A poisonous gas that can make you short of breath TAR A sticky black goo that stays in your lungs and causes cancer Some other bad things in cigarettes are: Acetone=nail varnish remover Arsenic=a poison DDT=insecticide Benzene=petrol fumes Ammonia=a cleaning product

5 PEOPLE WHO SMOKE ARE NOT VERY HEALTHY
They get short of breath very quickly when trying to exercise.

6 SMOKING CAN DAMAGE YOUR LUNGS
Smoke damages your lungs and makes it hard to breathe and walk.

7 SMOKING CAN DAMAGE YOUR HEART
Smoking can give you a bad heart and damaged arteries, so that blood cannot go round your body properly.

8 SMOKING CAN CAUSE CANCER OF THE LUNG MOUTH AND THROAT
As well as other parts of your body Cancer is a serious disease and can kill you if its not treated.

9 SMOKING CAUSES PROBLEMS FOR OTHER PEOPLE
Breathing smoke from other peoples cigarettes is also very harmful Women who smoke when expecting a baby could harm their baby Being in a room with someone who is smoking makes everyone's clothes smell The Government has passed a law making all smokers go outside to smoke because their bad habit is damaging other peoples health too.

10 SMOKING IS VERY EXPENSIVE
Smoking costs a lot of money Think about what you could spend your money on if you stop smoking What else could you do with this money? Think of better ways to spend it.

11 WATCH YOUR MONEY GROW Put the money you would have spent into a money box and watch it grow Buy yourself something nice 20 cigarettes cost about £5 a day, if you put this in a piggy bank, or in a proper bank, you could soon buy yourself something really nice that you have always wanted. Perhaps a new telephone, a computer or some new clothes.

12 LOTS OF GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU
STOP SMOKING You feel more energetic You fell more healthy You smell nice You can taste your food You have a lot more money Your home smells fresh You feel free

13 IF YOU SMOKE TRY TO STOP Get some help from a stop smoking advisor.
They can give you lots of advice and tips to make it easier for you to stop smoking. Using a special product e.g. a patch or lozenge can make it easier to quit. Your advisor or GP will tell you about the different products available. Can you think of something to keep you busy to take your mind off smoking? What hobbies do you have? Jigsaws sewing, walking, computer games, drawing. Try to keep yourself busy.

14 PEOPLE THAT CAN HELP YOU STOP SMOKING
Your family and friends Your Carer A Nurse Your chemist Your doctor Doncaster Stop Smoking Service But most of all YOU. It takes will power but people stop smoking every day You can do it Good Look! Having this extra support from someone will help. It won’t be easy but it will be one of the best things you can do in your life.
