1 ARC-IT Training Session 3: ARC-IT Website Navigation Example
June 2017 ARC-IT Training Session 3: ARC-IT Website Navigation Example This is the third session of the ARC-IT Training. In this session, we will look at an example of navigating around the ARC-IT website.

2 This session will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
ARC-IT Training June 2017 Session Outcome Navigate between components of ARC-IT on website This session will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete this session.

3 ARC-IT Website Navigation Example
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Website Navigation Example How is traffic signal pre-emption for public safety vehicles described in ARC-IT? Typically traffic signal pre-emption is provided to public safety vehicles by placing equipment on the vehicles that emits a signal and equipment on the traffic signal controller to receive the signal and respond to it. Let’s look at how signal pre-emption is described now, highlighting some of the changes with the use of the connected vehicle environment.

4 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Application Page
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Application Page Traffic signal pre-emption is a Service Package that has been in the National ITS Architecture for many years. Incorporating CVRIA applications into ARC-IT has resulted in changes to the original service package. On the ARC-IT website, if we select the Service Package item on the menu bar, we see the list of Service Packages. In the Public Safety Area is the service package for application for Emergency Vehicle Preemption.

5 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Service Package Page
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Service Package Page Let’s begin by looking at the Physical view of the Emergency Vehicle Preemption application.

6 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Physical Diagram
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Physical Diagram On the Physical diagram, we can see the physical objects involved in the SP. Traditionally, emergency vehicle preemption involves a Traffic Management Center, ITS Roadway Equipment representing the traffic signals, an Emergency Management Center and Emergency Vehicle On-board Equipment (OBE) on the Emergency Vehicle. However, we can see that in a connected vehicle environment the Emergency Vehicle OBE exchanges information with the Connected Vehicle Roadside Equipment, not the ITS Roadway Equipment. Since the interface is different, the on-board equipment will probably differ. To operate in the connected vehicle environment he SP would also require an interface between the Roadside Equipment and the ITS Roadway Equipment. This implies that the ITS Roadway Equipment, in this case the equipment on the traffic signal controller, would be different from the traditional preemption equipment. Let’s look at the exchange of information with the connected vehicle Roadside Equipment. Specifically, let’s investigate the intersection status flow sent to the Emergency Vehicle OBE. If you are viewing the physical diagram in SVG format, then you can select the flow on the diagram. If not, you can select the link from the table of information flows at the bottom of the page.

7 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Flows
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Flows Note that we jumped from the SP tab to the definition of the flow in the Physical view. You can see where we are in the breadcrumbs under the menu bar. In the definition of the flow, we see that it includes signal priority and preemption status. Let’s look at the Communication diagram for the flow.

8 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Communication Diagram
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Communication Diagram Communication diagrams are based upon an information flow triple made up of the source object, information flow and destination object. In this case, the triple is Connected Vehicle Roadside Equipment sending intersection status to Emergency Vehicle OBE. For the triple, the diagram lists the potential communication protocols in a layered stack that may be used for deployment. The diagram here just shows a portion of the stack, the complete stack is on the website.

9 ARC-IT Navigation Example
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example Returning to the Emergency Vehicle Preemption SP page, notice that two other views can be accessed- Enterprise and Functional. These will not be available in Version 8.0, but will be added in Version 8.1 of ARC-IT..

10 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Needs and Requirements
ARC-IT Training June 2017 ARC-IT Navigation Example – Needs and Requirements The next tab on the SP page is Requirements. This tab contains a table with three columns. The first column is a statement of Needs relating to the SP The second column is a functional object that is a part of the SP. Remember that functional objects are the white boxes inside the physical objects in the SP diagrams. The third column shows high level requirements mapped to the functional object. So in ARC-IT the key relationships for needs and requirements are Needs map to Service Packages Requirements map to Functional Objects (which are assigned to Service Packages)

11 ARC-IT Training June 2017 Quiz On the ARC-IT website, where can you find the information flows for a Service Package? That concludes our example of navigating through the ARC-IT website. It is time for a quiz. On the ARC-IT website, where can you find the information flows for a connected vehicle application?

12 ARC-IT Training June 2017 Quiz Review On the ARC-IT website, where can you find the information flows for a Service Package? Navigate to the webpage for the specific Service Package. On the Physical tab, view the Physical diagram to identify the flows or scroll down below the diagram to see the table listing the information flows Information flows are part of the physical view so to find the information flows of a Service Package on the ARC-IT website, navigate to the webpage for the Servie Package. On the Physical tab, analyze the Physical diagram to identify the flows or scroll down below the diagram to see the table listing the information flows.

13 Review Session Outcome
ARC-IT Training June 2017 Review Session Outcome Navigate between components of ARC-IT on website This concludes session 3 of the ARC-IT training. You should now be able to navigate between the components of ARC-IT on the website.
