The Start is entered on the first tab of RAD-IT. Image Description: A screen capture of the RAD-IT start tab.

4 Start Tab (cont.) Three Types of Architectures
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Start Tab (cont.) Three Types of Architectures Current Selected Architecture When a database is opened in RAD-IT, it opens on the Start tab for the regional architecture so let’s look at it in detail now. The left side of the tab lists the architectures: the regional and project architectures included in the database and related architectures. Related architectures are other regional or project architectures that are in other databases that typically, adjoin or overlap the architectures contained in the database. Listing the related architectures on the Start tab allows you to designate elements as shared between architectures (in different databases). (Click to display boxes.) To add a new architecture, you select the New button of the desired type. For example, to add a new project architecture, you select the middle New button. To remove an existing architecture, you select it then select the appropriate Delete button. Remember as the second step of opening an architecture in RAD-IT, you must select the architecture. You select the desired architecture on the list on the left and it will be highlighted. In the example shown, the Marinara County regional architecture is selected. (Click to display box & text.) To ensure that you are working in the desired architecture, the currently selected architecture is always listed at the top of the tabs in RAD-IT. Image Description: A screen capture of RAD-IT with a large arrow pointing to the Start tab is shown. Then a large arrow is shown pointing to the list of architectures with a box around the lists of the three types of architectures. Then three boxes are displayed around the New and Delete buttons for the three types of architectures. Finally, a large arrow is displayed pointing to the name of the currently selected architecture which has a box around it.

5 Maintenance Related Items
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Start Tab (cont.) Attributes of Selected Architecture Name Description Timeframe: Geographic Scope Service For the selected architecture, the basic attributes are given on the right side of the Start tab. Architecture attributes include: Name, Description, Scope defined by the timeframe, geographic area and ITS service coverage, as well as, Architecture maintenance related information (which we will look at next). As throughout RAD-IT when a change is made to any of the attributes, the Apply and Cancel buttons become active, (Click to display buttons.), and you must accept or cancel the change by selecting the Apply or Cancel button respectively. Image Description: A screen capture of the RAD-IT Start tab is shown with a large arrow pointing to a box around the attributes of the selected architecture. Arrows point to each attribute: Name, Description, Timeframe, Geographic Scope and Service Scope. An arrow points to a box around the maintenance related items. Then the Apply and Cancel buttons at the bottom of the screen are shown activated with arrows pointing to them. Maintenance Related Items Apply Cancel

7 Architecture Maintenance w/RAD-IT
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Architecture Maintenance w/RAD-IT RAD-IT provides a way to track maintenance related items of an architecture. All of the maintenance related entries on the Start tab are optional but allow you to enter: Developer – Name of the organization, person or team that has developed this architecture. Maintainer – Name of the organization, person or team maintaining this architecture. Version – The user may enter a value for this field that makes sense for the region. Architecture version numbers or names should be agreed to by all affected parties, and should be consistent across all architectures in the region. Date/Time – This field displays the current date and time when a new architecture is first created. The revision date/time field may be changed by the user when the architecture attributes are modified. RAD-IT provides a Change Log that allows you to keep a log of changes made to the architecture. Image Description: A screen capture of the RAD-IT Start tab is shown with a box around the four lower right entries and the Change Log button.

8 Change Log RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017
To view the Change Log, you select the Change Log button on the Start tab which opens the Change Log window for the selected architecture. Image Description: In the upper left, a screen capture of a RAD-IT Start tab with a box around the Change Log button is shown. A large arrow points to the Marinara County Change Log window.

9 Change Log (cont.) Architecture Name Date/Time Apply to Start Tab
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Change Log (cont.) Architecture Name Date/Time Apply to Start Tab Log Updated By Maintenance Records Apply to Start Tab Version In the Change Log window, records of the changes made to the selected architecture can be made by the user. The window title includes the name of the architecture to which the change log applies. You can add, modify or delete entries in the Change Log. Each entry or record in the Change Log includes a timestamp, name, version and change description. The Date/Time and Version fields have “Apply to Start Tab” checkboxes to the right of them. Selecting these checkboxes will cause the date/time or version number that shows on the “Start” tab to be updated to the entered values. On the left, all maintenance records for the current architecture are listed, ordered by date and time. For the selected record on the left, attributes for it are displayed on the right. The example shown includes three change log entries. The user began creating a new entry by selecting the “New” option. Today’s date and current time has come up automatically, but this may be changed by the user. The user then enters the name of the person updating the log, a new version number and a description of the change. All fields are optional except for the date/time. As always when an edit has been made, the Apply button must be selected to accept the changes, or the changes cancelled by selecting the Cancel button. Then, the Close button must be selected to close the Change Log window. The Cancel/Close button toggles between the two options depending upon if an entry has been edited. Image Description: A screen capture of the Marinara County Change Log window is shown with arrows pointing to the window title, the three maintenance records in the list on the left, the Date/Time, Apply to Start Tab, Log Updated By and Description entries and the New, Delete, Apply, Cancel/Close buttons. 10 Start Tab Project Architecture
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Start Tab Project Architecture Same as Regional Architecture with addition of Status value The attributes of a project architecture are the same as a regional architecture with one addition, the status of the architecture. The status for the architecture is selected from options on a pull-down menu. Image Description: A screen capture of the RAD-IT Start tab for a project architecture with a box around the Status value is shown.

11 RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Knowledge Check What feature of RAD-IT allows you to record maintenance activities? Change Log Time for a knowledge check. What feature of RAD-IT allows you to record maintenance activities? (Click to highlight the correct answer.) The change log in a RAD-IT database allows you to store records of the changes made in it.

12 RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Status Status describes the relative completeness of an architecture component Does it already exist? A future capability? Not planned at all? Status is a commonly used term but when used in an architecture, it describes the relative completeness of the architecture component. Does the component already exist? Is it a future capability? Or is it not planned at all?

13 Architecture Components with Status Values
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Architecture Components with Status Values Project Architectures Inventory Elements Services / Service Packages Roles & Responsibilities Functional Requirements Architecture Flows Agreements In addition to project architectures, RAD-IT records the status of others components of an architecture. As we walk through the tabs of RAD-IT, you will see that inventory elements, ITS services, stakeholder roles & responsibilities in the operational concept, functional requirements, architecture flows and agreements have status values assigned to them.

14 RAD-IT Default Status Values
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 RAD-IT Default Status Values Existing Planned Future Not Applicable If that’s not enough, customize! RAD-IT provides these default choices for status values: existing, planned, future or not applicable. If you need a different one, you can rename one of the default values or you can add additional ones, up to a total of eight status values. Let’s look at the process for customizing status values.

15 Customizing Status Values
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Customizing Status Values You can customize status values when you start RAD-IT or anytime afterwards. It may be best to update the status values when you first start an architecture so the customized status values are available as soon as you start entering information. To customize status values, you select Home-Update Status from the RAD-IT menu. (Click to display arrow & box.) This opens the Status window. Image Description: An image of the RAD-IT Tools menu, with Update Status highlighted, is shown.

16 Customizing Status Values (cont.)
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Customizing Status Values (cont.) Up to 7 status values plus “Not Applicable”, which is reserved Controls for order of statuses To create a new status, click “New” and then enter the Name (it is a good idea to use unique names) and Description – check whether this should be the Default value, then hit Apply. Then use the control arrows to put the new status in order relative to the others. You can move the status values around, edit the names or descriptions or change which is the default. You can have up to seven status values plus the “Not Applicable” status. “Not Applicable” is a reserved value so it cannot be deleted, renamed or reordered. The descriptions can be shown in the legend of reports if you want. Diagrams have the ability to distinguish the status values of flows by using different line styles. Customized status values are unique to the RAD-IT database so if you open a new file, only the RAD-IT default status values will be included. Image Description: A screen capture of the RAD-IT Status window is shown with arrows pointing to the New and Delete buttons and the Re-order buttons and a box around the checkbox for the Make this the default Status value option. 17 FHWA Rule/FTA Policy on ITS: Section 9 – Regional Architecture
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 FHWA Rule/FTA Policy on ITS: Section 9 – Regional Architecture Description of the region Stakeholders Operational concept Agreements System functional requirements Interface requirements ITS standards Sequence of projects Maintenance plan Remember there are nine components of a regional ITS architecture required by the FHWA Rule/FTA Policy. One requirement is a sequence of projects required for implementation.

18 Project Sequencing in RAD-IT
RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Project Sequencing in RAD-IT Project Architectures can be sequenced by Timeframe or Status RAD-IT can help with the sequencing of ITS projects. Project architectures can be sequenced by their timeframes or statuses. The status values are the same as used for the other components of the architecture. However, they can be used to do a chronological sort. Timeframes are unique to project architecture and can be any value, but they will be sorted alphabetically. There is a Project Sequencing report which we will look at next. The use of RAD-IT for projects is covered in detail in Module 13 of this course. Image Description: A screen capture is shown of the RAD-IT Start tab with a box around the list of project architectures and another around the Timeframe and Status entries.

19 RAD-IT Tool Training June 2017 Exercise Information about road weather information gathering and dissemination in Marinara County will be added to the Marinara County Regional Architecture (through the exercises of this course) Let’s do an exercise where you actual open and work in RAD-IT. Do not start the exercise yet. This slide presents a summary of the exercise then we will look at the objective for it. Then you can perform the exercise following step-by-step instructions.
