1 Young children learn through play.
They do not discern between what is work and what is play and as practitioners and parents neither should we.

5 Transition from Reception to Year 1
Bridging the two curriculums Emphasises learning based on play and experiences. Broad, balanced and purposeful Delivered through planned play/exploration activities All children have the opportunity to reach their full potential Continue to experience the best possible start to their education.

6 Assessments become more formal
Changes in Year 1 More formal and structured approach will be slowly introduced to ensure all pupils are working on the National Curriculum eventually preparing them for Year 2. A greater focus on writing and reading skills – Phonic Screening Test in Summer Term Learning how to work more independently, in pairs and groups, in a more structured way Assessments become more formal As the year progresses less structured play and more challenging activities linked to the curriculum areas 06/07/2018

7 Early years had Seven areas of learning
3 prime areas 4 specific areas Personal, Social and Emotional Development Now becomes PSHCE and Values Expressive arts and design Now becomes Art, D&T & Music Communication and Language Literacy Now becomes Phonics, English and Guided Reading Physical Development Now becomes P.E Understanding the world Now becomes Science, History and Geography Mathematics (called the same thing) In simple summary there are seven areas of learning.

11 Maths Learning styles Explore and experiment – Learning discovery
Many strategies as possible Differentiation Mathematical understanding should be developed through: stories, songs, problem solving, games and imaginative play. For example Playdough, making numbers, making shapes Peg boards Shape pictures Number puzzles Shapes and numbers around us E.g. door numbers

12 Maths At home: Making it real - Use world around you.
Relate to every day situations e.g setting the table. Songs and rhymes.

13 Literacy Tools for independent reading, writing, speaking and listening Investigating and play with language Writing for a purpose
