The Portuguese Social Information Archive (APIS) is a scientific infrastructure acting on the domain of preservation and dissemination of social science data. The archive comprises a range of datasets provided by research projects of the national scientific community. APIS has been developing a partnership with CESSDA (Consortium of European Social Science Data Archive) formally since 2013 and is committed in becoming a full member of the ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium).

3. CESSDA Joining CESSDA-ERIC: main stages of the process and actors
In order to join CESSDA-ERIC, the main strategy developed by APIS was to establish itself as an infrastructure within the Portuguese Roadmap of Research Infrastructures, which was launched by the national funding agency FCT. Since 2015, APIS, along with the Infrastructure of Social and Political Attitudes (IASPP/ESS-ERIC), form the Production and Archive of Social Science Data (PASSDA). The roadmap will play an important role to upgrade the archive and assure its sustainability in the long term.

2013: APIS joins the old CESSDA.
2015: APIS joins the Portuguese Roadmap
Working closely with FCT, the archive has been sucessful in advocating and the MoU is expected to be signed in the near future.
The funding of the National Roadmap is delayed; the new Board and the Ministry need new updates.
The government and the FCT Board of Directors change due to national elections.

5. CESSDA

Formalisation of the membership is contingent upon the decision of national decision-makers on scientific policy.
Next step: (more) meetings with FCT. Next one confirmed today morning: Tuesday 21st June.
