3 Our Focus and Goal Backdrop
The first time that the Federation’s Annual Conference has included a panelist session with financial advisors. Purpose To bring forward the front line business experience, marketplace insight and constructive viewpoints from professional advisors for conference attendees - a rich composition of senior MFDA stakeholders - to hear and engage. Position Financial advisors/financial planners are the most important element to the value, growth and quality of the wealth management/advice industry equation although one might ask are they being thrown under the bus? Goal To address top issues that drive the value our industry provides and encourage our industry to move forward and proactively embrace the best opportunities.

Discussion Framework What do you like about this industry? What is the most relevant client outcome you provide in your role as an advisor that is never measured and/or overlooked in favour of the more quantitative measurement of your business What are your thoughts pertaining to? The suasion that investor advocates and/or the media have on the regulator’s view on unbundling/banning commissions? or, Either a statutory fiduciary duty or best interest standard understanding that the two are distinctly different?

For example, financial planning If you could give one piece of advice to the industry i.e. to dealers, fund companies, service providers and/or regulators pertaining to the direction the industry is going or should be going what would it be? What do you see for the future – and do you have a thought or two that you would like to leave with the audience?
