DESCRIPTION OF COMMUNITY MAPPING
IT IS ALL VISIBLE PICTURE OF PHYSICAL AND NONE PHYSICAL THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE PHYSICAL THINGS MAY INCLUDE: Clan Boundaries Sacred Sites Houses Play Grounds Roads Creeks etc NONE PHYSICAL THINGS MAY INCLUDE: Issues and needs Traditions and cultural Beliefs and attitudes Local Power arrangement NOTE: INFORMATION IS OBTAIN THROUGH OBSERVATION, INVESTIGATION AND CONSULTING THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS. COMMUNITY MEMBERS DECIDE WHAT GOES AND DOES NOT GO ON THE MAP

PURPOSE OF COMMUNITY MAPPING
TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY TO RECOGNISE THEIR LOCAL ASSETS AND KNOWLEDGE. TO HELP COMMUNITY DRAW PHYSICAL PLAN OF THEIR AREA. TO ENCOURAGE OWNERSHIP AND LEADERSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY. TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ABOUT THE LOCAL DEVELOPMENT.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL – STEPS
STEP 1: GATHER THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN A WORKSHOP/MEETING. STEP 2: ASK THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO LIST ALL THE PHYSICAL AND NONE PHYSICAL RESOURCES/ASSETS IN THE COMMUNITY. STEP 3: INTRODUCE/EXPLAIN COMMUNITY MAP TO THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS. STEP 4: ASK THE COMMUNITY TO TRANSFER THE IDENTIFIED RESOURCES/ASSETS INTO THE COMMUNITY MAP. STEP 5: DIVIDE THE COMMUNITY MEMBER INTO GROUPS, EG, WOMEN, MEN, YOUTHS ETC. STEP 6: ASK COMMUNITY TO DO A ROUGH COMMUNITY MAP ON THE GROUND USING LOCAL MATERIALS SUCH AS STONES, STICKS, LEAVES, FRUITS, ETC. STEP 7: ASK COMMUNITY TO TRANSFER THE AGREED SKETCH ON TO THE PAPER. STEP 8: ENCOURAGE DISCUSSIONS, DEBATE AND QUESTIONS.

GROUP MAPPING EXERCISE
1. DIVIDE INTO GROUP TWO GROUPS. 2. GROUP ONE (1) WILL DEVELOP THE MAP OF KIUNGA. 3. GROUP TWO (2) DEVELOP MAP OF TABUBIL. 4. DEBATE, DISCUSS, USE LOCALLY AVAILABLE MATERIALS AND AGREE ON THE MAP. 5. TRANSFER THE MAP ON THE PAPER.

CONCLUSION COMMUNITY MAPPING TOOL CAN HELP CR GET RIGHT TO THE LEVEL OF THE COMMUNITY AND MAINTAIN GOOD RELATIONSHIP AND PLAN WITH THEM. COMMUNITY MAPPING TOOL CAN HELP COMMUNITY TO IDENTIFY THE USEFULL RESOURCES/ASSETS IN THEIR AREA TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. THIS TOOL WILL HELP COMMUNITY TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE RESOURCES/ASSETS DELLVERED TO THEM BY DEVELOPERS. THIS TOOL WILL HELP IMPACTED COMMUNITIES & CR TO DISCUSS AND PLAN FOR THE BETTER DEVELOPMENTS. THE IMPACTED COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL TAKE BETTER LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILTIES IN THEIR COMMUNTIES IF THIS COMMUNITY MAPPING TOOL IS INTRODUCED TO THEM.
