Please take out the PRACTICE PAGE for homework and have your child complete it. Only send in the homework page and not the book. Math Workshops

6 READING Reading Workshop Format
A teaching method in which the goal is to explicitly teach students strategies to become more skillful at comprehending text. Involves students in authentic reading experiences that focus on the strengths and needs of each individual student through differentiated instruction. Focus on Comprehension, Phonics (Fundations), Vocabulary, and Grammar Guided Reading/Literacy Centers

7 READING The DAILY FIVE Read to Self- The best way to become a better reader is to practice every day. Your child will practice with “Good Fit” books he/she chooses that are on his/her reading level. Read to Someone- Students practice reading strategies, work on fluency and expression, and check for understanding Listen to Reading- Students listen to good examples of literature and fluent reading therefore expanding their vocabulary and becoming a better reader Word Work- Students practice Fundations trick words both kinesthetically and visually. Phonics practice. Work on Writing -Students will write about topics that are important to them or select topics.

8 Spelling/Phonics Homework: Starting with Unit 2, students will receive 2 worksheets (dictation and one other worksheet) on Monday and it will be due on Friday At the end of each unit in Fundations, there will be both a decoding and spelling assessment.

11 Take-Home Folder Homework Book-please initial each evening
Please check you child’s homework. Correct errors together prior to sending it to school Comments section in homework assignment book for parent/teacher communication Homework should take approximately 20 minutes Please help your child to stay organized! They are to keep their planner in their take home folder! Keep a special place at home for Math Homework Book

12 Miscellaneous Birthdays-Please leave the treat in the office before school begins. We have 22 students. Don’t forget to send in napkins. Vacations-please give at least a weeks notice if your child will be out of school Please review the assessment folder with your child, sign each assessment and return the folder the following day. We Missed You: Please find someone who lives close to you to be your child’s homework helper. If there is no one, please pick up the missed work in the office at the end of the day so that your child does not fall behind.
