Nicotine is a stimulant as it raises alertness.
It is however VERY addictive.

Alcohol and performance
Often used as a sedative in sport (has a calming effect) It can cause a great safety risk as it slows reaction times and impairs judgement and balance. It also increases urine production therefore causing dehydration. Long term effects include liver and kidney damage

Socially acceptable Drug prescribed by a doctor or that can bought over the counter e.g. paracetamol and aspirin. Socially unacceptable Illegal drugs e.g. heroin, cocaine, cannibis.
