1 Wind Systems Wind systems are wide zones of prevailing winds
As the warm, moist air rises, it creates a zone of low pressure, clouds, and precipitation along the equator. As that warm air rises, it eventually reaches the troposphere and can rise no higher. It spreads outwards towards the poles.

2 Coriolis Effect The Coriolis effect is the apparent curvature of global winds, ocean currents, and everything else that moves freely across the Earth’s surface. The effect was found by Nineteenth century french engineer Gaspard C. Coriolis

3 Wind Systems Some examples of high pressure area's Sahara Desert
Great Victoria Desert, Australia Kalahari Desert Sonoran Desert The direction of wind is measured in terms of where the air is coming from. A northerly wind blows air from north to south. A southwesterly wind blows air from the southwest to the northeast. The prevailing wind is the wind that blows most frequently across a particularly region.

4 Jet Streams The position of a jet stream varies with the seasons.
Jet streams generally is located in the region of the strongest temperature differences on a line from the equator to a pole. The major jet streams, called polar jet streams, separate the polar easterlies from the prevailing westerlies in the Northern and southern hemisphere
