CRISP Special Competition for Community and Interdisciplinary Partnerships

2 WHY? Internal support to build faculty & staff research capacity
Bolster collaborations across organizational and departmental boundaries Foster and strengthen relationships among faculty, staff, and external partners Enhance innovative, interdisciplinary research Increase UTC researchers’ capacity to successfully compete for and secure external funding

3 Who? Tenure-track faculty from ALL disciplines are eligible to serve as the Principal Investigator/s (PIs). Lecturers, adjuncts, post-docs, and staff who are not in tenure-track positions may participate as team members. All teams must receive an endorsement and signature from the Lead PI’s Department Head. You do not have to have a history of external research funding to be eligible. A faculty member is eligible to be the lead PI on only 1 proposal and a team member or co-PI on no more than 2 proposals.

Deadline: 5:00 pm on October 18, 2016 Note: A letter of intent is not necessary this year.

6 Funding Tracks Track 1: CRISP Community Grants
Must include one or more collaborator(s) from UTC in partnership with a specific community-based organization Track 2: CRISP Interdisciplinary Grants Must include collaborators from one or more academic disciplines / departments NOTE: A faculty member is eligible to be the lead PI on only 1 proposal and a team member or co-PI on no more than 2 proposals, regardless of funding track(s) selected.

7 Award Details Maximum Award Amount = $8,000
Project Period = 12 months; January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017 Plan your project accordingly. There will be no additional funds granted, and “no-cost extensions” will not be considered. Funds not expended by December 31, 2017 will no longer be available to the research team. Note: Project teams will have an additional 12 months beyond the project period to fulfill their obligation to submit proposals for external funding.

Adjunct replacement costs for faculty AY release – NOTE: limited to $2,500 per course Student wages (undergrad or grad) Associated fringe benefits Equipment Software Travel Supplies

9 Approvals Required The Lead PI’s Department Head
Remember, all projects involving Hamilton County Schools need HCDE approval! IRB or IACUC approval (not required for submission, but needed before research with humans or animals begins) Gift Cards – No approval is required at proposal submission, but gift cards must be EXPLICITLY described in the proposal and budget to qualify for CBO approval.
