1 Project 10: Innovative IoT Applications in Scientific Research and Consumer Market REU Student: Nathalie Domingo Graduate mentors: Kelvin Ly and Kaveh Shamsi Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Zhang and Dr. Jin Week 7 (July 5 – July 8, 2016) Accomplishments: Set up the GPS module: only gets a fix outside and can communicate with the RPI Set up the Wi-Fi dongle to act as an access point—allows remote connection to the RPI Found ways to locate available Wi-Fi networks and the number of devices on the network Started flying the drone Issues/problems encountered and solutions (if any): Broke the drone—probably won’t get a new one Could not access UART—necessary for the GPS module GPS module would get a fix, but could not communicate with the RPI Device mentioned in all tutorials used for built-in Bluetooth on new RPI Fixed by using the correct device: /dev/serial0 Plans for next week: Continue working on the drone project Find a way to map out info
