O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually.

Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession (Based on Psalm 85:8) The psalmist tells us that when we turn to God in our hearts, God speaks peace to the faithful. As we turn to God in true confession of our sin, we trust in God, whose shalom makes us whole. Let us come and seek God’s mercy and grace through our contrite spirit
8
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in Unison)
Lord Jesus, we call upon you. Save us! We are intimidated by our circumstances, distracted from your purposes, drowning in doubts and fears. We are presumptuous about your will, belittling others and magnifying ourselves. We envy the blessings of others, secretly despising their dreams.
9
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in Unison)
We have hardened our hearts to the suffering of our brothers and sisters, feeding ourselves in face of injustice that holds them captive. Search our hearts, O God, lift us from our sins and help us walk with you in faith, humility, and brotherly-sisterly love. Amen.
10
Gathering Around the WORD Declaration of Forgiveness (Based on Romans 10:11, 13) Hear the Good News. Our God sees all, knows all, forgives all, and restores all through our Lord Jesus Christ. No one who believes in him shall be put to shame, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord and confesses with one’s lips and believes in one’s heart that Christ was raised from the dead shall be saved. Thanks be to God. Amen.
11
Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
12
Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ
13
Proclaiming the WORD Message to the Youth/ Prayer of Illumination
14
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Romans 10:5-15)
5Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that “the person who does these things will live by them.” 6But the righteousness that comes from faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7“or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8But what does it say? “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);
15
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Romans 10:5-15)
9because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. 11The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
16
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Romans 10:5-15)
14But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? 15And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
17
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Matthew 14:22-33)
22Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them.
18
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Matthew 14:22-33)
25And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 26But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”
19
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Matthew 14:22-33)
28Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Responding Hymn # 353 “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
22
Responding Hymn # 353 “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
When darkness seems to hide his face, I rest on his unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
23
Responding Hymn # 353 “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
24
Responding Hymn # 353 “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found, dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.

Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
(Excerpt from Confession of Belhar) We believe in the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who gathers, protects and cares for the church through Word and Spirit. This God has done since the beginning of the world and will do to the end. We believe that Christ’s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the community of believers who have been reconciled with God and with one another.
26
Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
(Excerpt from Confession of Belhar) We believe that unity is, therefore, both a gift and an obligation for the church of Jesus Christ. We believe that through the working of God’s Spirit, it is a binding force, yet simultaneously a reality. Which must be earnestly pursued and sought: one which the people of God must continually be built up to attain. We believe that the church must together come to know the height and the breadth and the depth of the love of Christ.
27
Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
(Excerpt from Confession of Belhar) We believe that together we are built up to the statue of Christ, the new humanity. We believe that we must together know and bear one another’s burdens, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ. We believe that we are called to admonish, and comfort one another; To suffer with one another for the sake of righteousness; to pray together; and together serve God in this world.
