2 Anatomy of a dolphin They need air to survive.
They are good swimmers because of their hairless bodies. Dolphins have 1 flipper on each side of their body. A dolphin’s tail is divided into 2 flat paddles called flukes. Salt water keeps their skin soft. They have a breathing hole called a blow hole.

3 Habitat of a dolphin Dolphins spend their life in water.
Most live in tropical water. Some swim in warm waters near the equator. Some are found in rivers. Some live close to the coast. Some live in shallow waters. They live all around the world.

4 Life cycle The mommy gives birth to the young.
Mom feeds milk to her babies. The babies are 4 feet long. The mommy helps the baby get air. A 12 months females give birth to one baby at a time called a calf.

5 Interesting facts There are 30 different species of dolphins.
They eat fish, squid and shrimp. They swallow their food whole. They can hold their breath for 6-10 minutes. They can take a breath in less than one second. They ride the waves made by ships or live whales.
