5 EDUCATION High School- HSTE classes, sciences, math etc
Post –Secondary means after high School 6 months – 2yr technical schools (Public or private) 4 years- Bachelor Degree 5-6 years – Master’s Degree 6-12 years- PhD Degree NEED TO BE SURE THAT THE SCHOOL YOU CHOOSE IS ACREDITED IN THE FIELD YOU WANT TO ENTER

Certification pass a prescribed course of study and meets standards and qualifications Issued by a Professional Organization or Government Agency Example: Certified Medical Assistant Certified Dental Assistant

7 LICENSURE Occupations that require licensure vary from state to state
Usually require a person to : - Complete an approved educational program - Pass a state test - Maintain certain standards to obtain & maintain licensure Examples: Physicians, registered nurses, dental hygienists, physical therapists

8 REGISTRATION Required in some careers
Done by a regulatory agency, state board, or professional organization Administer state tests and keep a list or registry of qualified individuals Examples: Registered Dietician, registered respiratory therapist, registered radiology technician

Developed to indicate knowledge & skills expected of Health Care Workers, especially at the entry level– 4 clusters Diagnostic- careers that involve creating a picture of a patients health status at a specific point in time Therapeutic- careers that involves changing the health status of a patient over time

10 Informatics- careers that involve documentation of patient care, including information systems, coding, and analysis Environmental Services- careers involved with creating a therapeutic environment to provide direct & indirect patient care.

Cost containment to eliminate need for many specialities Example: Facility could have a technician competent in EKG, EEG and sonography, or laboratory skills.
