10 What is the 4W? - what - where -when - who “Who is doing what where”

11 What is the 4W? “- an activity database that provides a comprehensive picture of humanitarian food security interventions.”

12 4W Principles - minimum geographic area: WARD - activity type - targeted population type - HRP targets - cumulative for partner data ownership

13 4W Outcomes - Sector coordination (activity mapping, contact sharing, sector updates.) - Gap analysis - OCHA dashboard - PMR - Donor communication - etc.

14 The 4W matrix TRAINING

15 Key points in filling out the matrix
Minimum one line per activity type per LGA Ward/Camp level data is even better Household size (8 is the consensus) Are you targeting households or individuals? If targeting households, individuals will be extrapolated SADD! (Sex & Age Disaggregated Data) Actually a reporting requirement!, but… If you have it, please provide it. Cumulative for 2016 Not a monthly reporting! Any activity that takes place in 2016 Partners are owners of their data, and are responsible for accurate and updated information being submitted to the FSS NIGERIA FOOD SECURITY SECTOR Strengthening Humanitarian Response

16 Key population columns
The population data and informations about the population targeted is the most critical part of the matrix: Column Information Comments Average HH size The average size of a household in the area targeted The consensus is currently 8 IPC/CH Level The food insecurity phase of the targeted population No. of households No of households targeted Same in both targeted and reached Disaggregated demographic data Target population in demographic segments. Provide it if you have it. Otherwise see notes on total TOTAL The total number of people reached or targeted This field will auto calculate if disaggregated data is provided, otherwise TOTAL represents one of two values: An actual count of indivduals. A factor of avg. household size and households. There must be a correlation between avg. HH size and total NIGERIA FOOD SECURITY SECTOR Strengthening Humanitarian Response

17 4W Scenarios FOOD SECURITY SECTOR Scenario #1
You have a planned food distribution program in three LGAs in Yobe state and 10 wards (Bursari, Geidam & Damatura) to IDPs in host communities. The project will target 3000 households in each LGA for 3 months starting in June 2016 and ending September The average household size is 10 in all LGAs. You do not have disaggregated demographic data on your target population. Answer: 10 lines of data Scenario #2 You have an agricultural inputs program targeting the most vulnerable populations in Northern Borno (Kukawa, Abadam, Mobbar) and 8 wards with 50,000 women-led households who will receive agricultural inputs in the form of seeds, tools and training for small scale fast-growing vegetable cultivation. The project will target each household once and is expected to take 2 months July to August The avg. household size is 8. Answer: 8 lines of data NIGERIA FOOD SECURITY SECTOR Strengthening Humanitarian Response
